[olpc-help] LiveCD build 625

I am trying to boot the LiveCD build 625 on my Xp Pro machine. I get as far as this error message:

can't access TTY: job control turned off. 

Being a Linux newbie I tried sh -m to no avail. Brings up a few clues as to USB back-up media not found and then goes back to the same prompt as before, "can't access...."

Is this a simple fix or beyond a newbie level skill on Linux?
