Data corruption isn't something I want, so for this reason I should update.

I have no wireless gear at all other than the XO and a couple of USB
adapters I use in my other laptop when I'm on the road. If I can somehow
hack one of them into a WAP on one of my Linux desktops, it might be
worth trying. But these are "Office Depot cheapie" D-Link and Belkin
devices, and probably can't even function in master mode.

See above ... I don't even have my T-mobile PIN yet. :)

So ... yes, I want to upgrade. Did I read some of the other emails
correctly -- can I log in to the XO as root and do "olpc-update 653"
now, or do I still need to download the image and reflash the machine
with it? There's nothing in the journal I want to save, but I would have
to reinstall wxMaxima. :)
