1. Marcelo Tosatti has joined the Red Hat team to work on kernel issues.
Marcelo is very well known in Brazil and the kernel community as the
maintainer of the 2.4 kernel. As a first project as a member of the team,
Marelo is interested in working the recovery scenario with the LinuxBIOS
team: i.e., the code that children can use to re-install their laptops from
the BIOS either over USB or the wireless network.

2. To Nicholas' great embarrassment, he was ambushed with one of the
kindest gestures to date. During the WCIT black-tie dinner in Austin—at
which he was delivering the dinner speech—he was given the Humanitarian
Award by WCIT and the Minister of State of Taiwan, Dr. Ferng-Ching Lin, who
hosted dinner.

3. Mark Foster hand-carried the first three pre-A-Test prototype OLPC
electronics boards to Cambridge this week. Together with Michail Bletsas,
Chris Blizzard and the Red Hat team, they brought up the mini-Fedora
distribution. This means that we now have a stripped-down distribution that
will boot and run off a USB key, somewhat similar to the actual
requirements of the real hardware.
