 a group of laptops joining ad-hoc separate themselves into more than one
 network, leading to collaboration failure; buddy icons are not all present
 on all laptops.

 seen on xo-4 with 8787 wireless card, but not yet tested on xo-1.75 with
 8686 wireless card.

 the ad-hoc network beacons have the same BSS ID but different HT
 capabilities and information.
