 * changed driver to do a simple deferral, by inserting code at the point
 of failure to restore state to what it was before the event; no longer
 hangs, but has a side effect of consuming CPU in ksdioirqd kernel thread
 for the short time that memory is unavailable.  Tests and refinement in
 progress.
