Comment(by Quozl):
A test of RTC interactions on XO-1 and XO-4.
----
XO-1: If the RTC battery is removed, resulting in 0000-00-00 00:00:00, or
the RTC is manually set to 0000-00-00 00:00:00, then Open Firmware reports
2000-00-00 00:00:00 on banner.
----
XO-1: If the RTC battery is removed, resulting in 0000-00-00 00:00:00, or
the RTC is manually set to 0000-00-00 00:00:00, then Linux is booted, the
system time is shown as 1999-11-30 00:00:00. (Verified on 8.2.1, 10.1.3,
11.3.0, 11.3.1, 12.1.0, and 13.1.0.)
After boot on 8.2.1, the RTC contains 1999-11-30. (Verified using
''hwclock'').
After boot and shutdown on 12.1.0 and 13.1.0, the RTC is unchanged,
showing 2000-00-00 in Open Firmware banner. (Verified using Open
Firmware, because ''hwclock'' failed with #12622).
----
XO-1: If the RTC is left at 1999-11-30 from the previous test, or manually
set to 1999-12-06 16:31:15, then Linux is booted, the system time is shown
as either:
* 1999-11-30 or 1999-12-06 on 8.2.1, 10.1.3, 11.3.0, or
* 1963-10-24 or 1963-10-31 on 11.3.1, 12.1.0 and 13.1.0.
----
XO-4: If the RTC battery is removed, the RTC will be cleared to 2000-00-00
by Open Firmware startup.
----
XO-4: If the RTC is set to 2000-00-00 or 0000-00-00, then Linux is booted,
the system time is shown as 1970-01-01. ''hwclock'' shows 1970-01-01.
After shutdown and reboot, Open Firmware continues to show 2000-00-00 or
0000-00-00. If ''hwclock --systohc'' is used, there is no change to the
value shown by Open Firmware.
----
XO-4: If the RTC is set to 1999-12-06, then Linux is booted, the system
time is shown as 1970-01-01. ''hwclock'' reports "''hwclock: The Hardware
Clock registers contain values that are either invalid (e.g. 50th day of
month) or beyond the range we can handle (e.g. Year 2095).''"
