 Reviewing the datasheet, the bit converts a mono signal, but my guess is
 that we are sending a stereo data stream to the codec, with only one
 channel containing data.

 Reviewing common descriptions of a pseudo-stereo effect, the input is
 filtered by frequency, some frequencies are placed in the other channel,
 and a small delay is added.
