Comment(by dsd):

 If I disable all runin-* tests, with wireless drivers deleted, but just
 leave the GUI running, the same free memory decrease occurs, with a
 similar gradient (between -7 and -9).

 However, one test that I did leave running for a long time shows that the
 amount free memory did become constant after about 14 hours. But I would
 still like to be able to explain why it decreased so much before it
 reached that point. It doesn't seem like this should happen for an
 application that is so "repetitive."

 Now testing with the runin gui disabled.
