Comment:

 this is expected behavior.  it was unfortunate in earlier releases that
 disabling automatic power management (which is intended to prevent the
 laptop from sleeping) also prevented the obvious power savings of dimming
 and blanking the screen.  this has now been fixed in powerd, as of version
 100.  (this is especially important on XO-1, where automatic power
 management is disabled by default, due to suspend/resume bugs.)

 if an application wishes to disable screen dimming/blanking, there is a
 mechanism for that documented in the powerd script itself.  there is
 currently no user interface for the laptop user to disable dim/blank,
 however.
