 Perhaps it can be removed by adding a delay after power down.  We have a
 delay in Open Firmware after instructing the EC to power down for the same
 reason ... after the command is sent, significant time can elapse, enough
 time to show the ok prompt again for instance.

 I'm worried about the mass production engineers, or anyone else using the
 serial console, raising it later.  I agree system impact is zero.
