 I have been monitoring the state of the transcoding pipeline and am a bit
 at a loss as to how to proceed. With short recordings, Sometimes (short
 recordings) I see the state as NULL on my first read (after a pause of 100
 ms) and the transcoding has completed. On longer recordings, the state
 always returns PLAYING, even when the pipeline seems to be inactive (no
 changes to output.ogg). I could timeoout but that just puts us back where
 we are now.
