Comment:

 This ugly behaviour is gone in 12.1.0.

 It was originally added because Sugar would not launch if the disk was
 full, so a sledgehammer approach was needed in advance of launching Sugar.

 Now Sugar launches fine (with a big "disk full" warning) and you can
 delete big items from the journal, erase activities, etc. So the activity
 deletion stuff has been removed.
