 With the #11925 issue patched-around I see the boot animation on a
 XO-1.75.

 I do not see the boot animation on a similarly-patched XO-1 or XO-1.5,
 even without touching any keys.  We go from the single dot being shown to
 text mode boot.

 A small black cursor appears towards the bottom of the first Sugar screen
 shown once X is started (which disappears after switching screens) as if
 we are confusing terminals again.
