 Please push this to git for easy review.

 I'm a little concerned at the scope of these changes - are these
 definitely important fixes that we need to ship immediately? With every
 change, we increase the workload more than normal at this stage, and we
 risk adding new bugs, which we're often good at doing :(

 I'm happy to review and ship this for 12.1.0, I just ask you to keep these
 considerations in mind.
