Comment(by greenfeld):

 I see kernel messages like "mmc0: new high speed SDHC card at address
 0007" when a SD card is inserted, and "mmc0: card 0007 removed" when a SD
 card is removed.

 If you are not seeing those messages then perhaps something else is wrong.
