Comment:

 I disagree.  None of the eMMC related problems have happened with
 pre-3.0.17 kernels with serial driver disabled, and their frequency
 increased with increasing debug output, so I think they were all due to
 something the serial driver did.  The post-3.0.17 kernels certainly reduce
 the frequency of hangs associated with the serial driver, possibly because
 of timing changes triggered by code movement in memory from one version to
 another.  This explains why the eMMC problems have reduced.
