Comment(by greenfeld):

 In 11.3.1 os27 & os28 EPUB files seem to be much more responsive when read
 on an XO.

 However I have yet to find an EPUB where the text-to-speech functionality
 in Read works, although the speaking engine can report when its settings
 are changed.
