Comment:

 The DCON itself seems to be working as normal. Freezing the screen then
 changing vts (in and out of X), all seems good, and the bootanim is
 working until this point.

 However, when X is started, the glitch described here is seen. I've traced
 this down to X's fbdev driver: FBDevScreenInit() calls
 fbdevHWSaveScreen(pScreen, SCREEN_SAVER_ON) which results in a call to
 ioctl(FBIOBLANK).

 This is presumably causing a complete power down of the graphics hardware,
 causing the DCON to lose state.

 I guess the problem will go away once we move to a real X driver which
 would be intelligent enough to know that there's no reason to power down
 the hardware here.
