Comment(by wad):

 I would note that while Linux halts after transferring just 300 KB or so,
 OFW has no problem copying those files from USB to SD/eMMC.   In Linux,
 the problem seems to be when reading the files from USB.  When writing
 them, there doesn't seem to be an error.
