 Those logs don't have any battery info in them so they don't help.  There
 is a separate log program for battery logging.  Its called 'olpc-pwr-log'
 Please run it at the command line, duplicate the problem and attach the
 log.

 Because the machine powers off the log won't be complete but it will give
 me a reasonable idea of what the battery state is based on the voltage and
 current draw.

 Yes.  Here's the procedure.

 1) Duplicate your problem
 2) With the laptop is still powered off remove the battery.
 3) Connect up power adapter and power the laptop back up without the
 battery installed.
 4) Go to a command prompt and run olpc-pwr-log it will wait for a battery
 5) Insert battery
 6) When the re-charge has finished ctrl-c to exit the program
 7) send the log
