 So Daniel raises a related point, how are text range selections handled
 under GTK3 with touch devices? Does it do anything similar to iOS or
 Android in text fields?

 This is something we will need to address -- at least on GTK3.

 Invalidating text selections from a USB mouse (only in units with a
 touchscreen) may be an acceptable temporary tradeoff. We need to look into
 it.

 As for dropping the fork, I can agree to reviewing things with a look at
 dropping it in the release post 12.2.0 . Usage of GTK2 activities and
 programs at that point will give us a hint.
