In 12.1.0 os7 small fonts are rendered with letters poorly spaced on the
XO display to the point it hurts my eyes even with properly corrected
vision. The spacing between letters just seems off, and the way the fonts
are rendered makes them hard to read.

For examples, see the object parameters used for Sounds and Costumes in
Scratch, Scratch's "x/y/direction" text above said tabs, and the font used
for dialogs balloons created in the top bar in FotoToon.

In general the Sugar HIG probably could provide better guidance on minimum
 font sizes than
 http://wiki.sugarlabs.org/go/Human_Interface_Guidelines/The_Sugar_Interface/Text_and_Fonts
. Given our targeted environment, I do not think it is appropriate for us
to presume that everyone has affordable/easy access to 20/20 corrected
 vision.
