 The fix is as optimal as it can get, given how both GTK+ and WebKit work,
 perhaps GTK+ could get API to lend further control of the backing buffer,
 but that's a quite fundamental change that would be very rarely used, so
 could be hard to get it in any soon.

 I've taken this issue to the WebKit bugzilla:
 https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84149 , if this patch gets applied
 both Browse and Epiphany would get fixed, so the patch attached here is a
 workaround that would be rendered no-op if the fix is applied to WebKit.
