 isn't true: the laptop software stack isn't useable in ebook-mode only,
 since many operations (menus, button clicking) require the touchpad.  as
 soon as you crack open the laptop (from ebook mode) to get at the
 touchpad, you're no longer in ebook mode -- the magnetic detector no
 longer has an affect.  so rotation is very much needed in non-ebook mode.
