 Tested here with two 1.5 xos and the patch above as improving the
 situation.

 The scenario where two machines would come up and connect to same Ad-hoc
 network is still illusory with idle suspend enabled (no blame just an
 observation). I did boot machine A and it connected to the Ad-hoc network
 when I switched to the neighborhood view. The second machine (B) I logged
 in and left it for a while. It does not appear on A. When I switch to the
 neighborhood view on B the machine starts connecting to the Ad-hoc
 network, A has fallen into sleep by now (black screen). B is not connected
 to the Sugar Ad-hoc network but does not see A. I wake up A and it
 reconnects. Now A and B do see each other.
