 i'm attaching messages.save, which is the full /var/log/messages for the
 current boot.  i've annotated the "olpc-rotate: checkpoint" messages
 (which i generate with logger, from /usr/bin/olpc-rotate) with the
 keyboard key that i hit (and released) just after each one.  there are
 four instances of that.  the log also includes a backtrace from the
 setting of kbdmode, but that happened days ago -- long before the keyboard
 "broke".
