 Perhaps for non-fatal errors rsyslogd could just echo it somewhere like
 something seems to do for Fedora setup/livecds.  However this is disabled
 by default, and not very helpful for most users.

 The original misconception which led to this ticket was a B1 which ran the
 kernel OOM killer while running runin, where I only spotted the kernel
 warnings on the XO console and not in the serial logs for an unknown
 reason.  I then discovered text written to /dev/console and /dev/tty0
 (character devices with different major/minor numbers) did not show up on
 the serial port ttyS2.

 According to the Linux kernel documentation this latter behavior is
 expected {kernel messages to all, but only the last item specified is
 considered /dev/console for usage}.  I will try to force the OOM killer to
 trigger and see if the issue persists tomorrow.
