 the x86-3.1 kernel removes the (never upstreamed) AC power input device
 which reported AC plug/unplug. The equivalent functionality is available
 through uevents which can be polled for on a fd (see "udevadm --monitor"
 source code).

 switchd/powerd need modification for this change (if it is still desirable
 at all? I see that switchd doesn't offer this functionality for XO-1.75)
