 Richard dixit:

 The EC side needs to get fixed up.  Code is in but untested.    This
 also needs some sort of definition about the API to use ALS.  The EC
 can't control the backlight directly so some agreement on a data
 format between kernel and EC is needed.  I suppose a single 8 bit
 value of the current ALS reading would suffice.

 This is rsmith/EC + Saadia/Kernel - can only assign one at a time.
