Comment:

 I think this should be transformed into a Future Release feature request
 ticket that makes powerd not suspend when external storage is attached
 where the power is cut on suspend.

 I base this on some recent work I've done looking at USB power management.
 Clearly a sudden cut of power to the device as we go into suspend is going
 to cause occasional problems like this one.
