Comment:

 Sorry that I didn't get to looking at this, I got distracted (and still
 am) by higher priority issues. So this still needs looking at and is
 currently our only "untouched" blocker.

 Simon, Gonzalo is possibly available to work on this if you are still tied
 up with your other blocker (#10671) but would benefit from your input on
 the issue as a starting point. I just posted my own thoughts to the
 upstream ticket.
