 I disabled the mmc rescan thread, which is responsible for calling
 mmc_power_up as seen in sysrq-w, and the problem still occurs but with an
 empty list of threads in sysrq-w.  This is very surprising to me.

 So I suppose we're back at square one and should just be bisecting across
 the whole kernel stack, unless anyone has better ideas.
