 Performed a few more experiments:

  * turning on `CONFIG_MMC_DEBUG` doesn't help.  The mmc debug hangs when
 the UI does, in the middle of whatever it's doing, and doesn't continue
 until the hang ends.
  * turning on `CONFIG_MMC_UNSAFE_RESUME` doesn't help
  * turning off `CONFIG_MMC_CLKGATE` doesn't help
