It's not clear to me what could be changed on the kernel side to improve
behaviour. It's up to other parts to behave better:
1. libertas firmware: Don't wake the host if a multicast packet doesn't
match any of the configured multicast addresses (might already behave this
way, but I believe not).
2. Configure [ticket:10207#comment:9 APs that behave as multicast
routers] to do group membership polling much less often. We must reply to
these queries or we'll get thrown off the multicast group.
3. [http://avahi.org/ticket/296 Add support] for operating as a
[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleep_Proxy_Service Sleep Proxy] to APs
and/or XOs (the latter would each take a turn at providing the service,
similar to how some mesh protocols work), and add client support for using
such a proxy to avahi on XOs. This should take care of regular wake-ups
due to mDNS maintenance packets.
