New description:

SHC12900064 booted but stopped with only the XO character showing (no
progress dots or text). The keyboard and battery charging are functional.
Unfreezing the DCON via the "visible" command and working over IRC Quozl
and I seem to have diagnosed an EC/HOST communications failure which needs
 further diagnostics.

The laptop has Q4B08 installed, and is being kept alive on AC power until
we come up with something else worth looking at.

We tried using the "sound" command to verify they keyboard worked, and now
it is stuck in an infinite 250ms loop playing the start of the startup
 sound.

I believe Martin has also occasionally seen an XO fail to boot while stuck
on an XO, so this could potentially be more than a one-off.
