 powerd needs to be able to query the state of the lid and ebook switches.
 the straightforward previous method, of having a sysfs node provide this
 information, was rejected by upstream.

 dsd submitted a patch for evtest which gives it the ability to query
 current state of any input device state bit.  we need this new code to be
 released by upstream, and packaged.  powerd (unreleased version) is
 already attempting to use the new feature.
