Comment:

kbdshim starts out without a controlling tty, so the first open of a tty
will assign that tty to be the controlling tty. kbdshim was opening far
too many devices (to look for input devices) on startup, and the first tty
device it hit was /dev/tty1. this assigned tty1 as kbdshim's controlling
tty, and prevented olpc-dm from working correctly.

(the spew of EVIOCGID errors was another result of scanning far too many
 devices.)

 will be fixed in kbdshim-19.
