 I agree that it is well known that attaching a serial adapter disables the
 camera.  But in this case no serial adapter or detection resistor(?) is
 present; just the four-wire cable.

 This is something which may affect users who route a serial cable outside
 of an XO, don't always attach it, and then expect the XO to be used for
 other tasks.  But I do agree it's largely developers who do this though.
