 Could be a ConsoleKit/DevKit issue.

 Background: in vanilla Fedora, CK tracks the user in the currently active
 VT / X session, and grants rights over devices. So for example changing to
 a VT (not logged in, or root-owned) means that the Sugar session (under
 user 'olpc') cannot mount a USB stick.

 IIRC, our builds (8.2.x and 10.1.x series) have a hacked CK/DK config
 where olpc user can always mount devices.

 You are getting glib.GError: Not Authorized. I would track whether you
 changed to VTs or not.

 A quick check mounting a usb disk on a vanilla f14 shows that CK/DK isn't
 using filesystem ACLs. Not sure how to check what CK/DK are doing the
 right thing.
