Comment(by Quozl):

Thanks for your problem report. This sounds like a known problem #10597
that affects laptops with certain firmware and software versions.

Could you please get the firmware and software version and get back to us?
Or, if you are confident that the firmware and software have '''not'''
been updated since delivery, give us the serial number. You can find the
serial number of the laptop hidden under the battery flange.

Please also try removing the main battery, and the external power, wait
ten seconds, and then try again. This might fix the problem, but to be
honest it only does so in rare circumstances. It only needs to be tried
 once.

Please describe the history of usage ... when did the laptop last work?
I'm asking this question so that I can see if what you have is an instance
of #10597, since that problem happens after the date has rolled over to
 2011.

If you would like to try to fix the problem yourself, please see our Wiki
page [http://wiki.laptop.org/go/10597 Keyboard freeze fix for os 650-656].
This has worked for me ... I've even been able to force the problem to
 reappear by downgrading the firmware.

Another person reported a symptom similar to yours, in the past week ...
#10795 is where that is being tracked, and they tried the fix but could
not get it to work. For that person, I've said ''The next thing for you
to do is to seek repair and service facilities. There may have been damage
to the keyboard or the connector. Please write to help at laptop.org and ask
 the volunteers there for assistance.''
