 Do we have information about the type(s) of tape used and how they were
 applied?   Tape alone is ambiguous; it could be electrical, duct tape,
 scotch tape, medical tape, packing tape, plumber's tape...

 Also, do we have an idea what the expected lifetime of the tape
 application is that we are shooting for and in what conditions, and is it
 supposed to be removable without damaging the trackpad?

 This may almost be a good issue for someone with an environmental chamber
 to look into.
