Comment(by jon.nettleton):

 I have just made another round of changes to Record that is available on
 my github account. You can check out the changes here
 http://github.com/linux4kix/Record.activity/commits/jbn-testing and either
 download it as a tarball, or add it as a remote git repository if you have
 the sugar git repo checked out.

 The big change I have implemented is that we are matching our quality
 settings to camera settings. This allows us to remove software scaling
 from the pipeline. This also makes the live preview better reflect the
 quality of the output.

 With these changes on top of the existing work done by dsd: the CPU usage
 is way down. In general on High quality I am seeing an average usage of
 40% cpu with peak at 60%. The sync'ing of A/V is much better with this
 configuration but I am still having big problems with "hiccups" where
 things get so out of whack a bunch of frames have to be dropped to get
 line everything back up.

 I will explore some more enhancements this weekend. I would love it if
 someone with an XO 1 could test my code and make sure it runs.
