#10141: trac does not display content of local directory that has file I wish to

I currently interact with trac using Firefox 3.0.16 (from user root) in a
desktop system running SuSE 11.1. I upload files to directory /root/fetch
from my XOs - then want to have trac "attach" such files to the tickets I
 am writing.

 Had uploaded file logs.SHC9370111D.2010-05-01.04-15-50.tar.bz2 to
/root/fetch. When I clicked on 'Browse' in the "attach file" webpage for
a ticket, trac opened a smaller window supposedly showing me the content
of the /root/fetch directory - but the data portion of that window was
empty (as though /root/fetch contained no files).

I tried pasting the "logs.SHC9370111D.2010-05-01.04-15-50.tar.bz2" string
into the 'Select' (or whatever) input_field at the top of that window,
then clicking on the 'Open' button at the bottom of that window. But trac
told me "Cannot attach empty file" (there seemed to be a blank prefixed to
the string I thought I was trying to paste).

I finally made a copy (in /root/fetch) of that file - giving that copy a
name that I could remember. I then again clicked on 'Browse' in the
"attach file" webpage, and when trac opened the (still empty) window
showing /root/fetch, I started to fill in that easier name into the
'Select' (or whatever) input_field at the top of that window. trac auto-
completed the name, I clicked on the 'Open' button on the bottom of that
window - and trac accepted the file to the ticket I was working on.

MUCH too much trouble to simply attach a file to a trac ticket.
