 So you're saying the loss of association and wireless LED when powerd idle
 suspends is unrelated to "ethtool wol u".  Yet it happens.

 Is it something specific to C1?

 I've two C1 here.  On one I added "logger 'ethtool wol u'" to the
 set_wake_on_wlan function in /usr/sbin/powerd and then rebooted.

 On the first idle suspend event, followed by resume, /var/log/messages
 contained evidence that this line had been executed.

 On five subsequent idle suspend events, there was no evidence that this
 line had been executed.

 Therefore I conclude powerd is not calling ethtool before every idle
 suspend, and this is why the symptom occurs.
