 correction:  my previous comment should have said: "18M of logs means over
 6Kb per s/r cycle", not "6Mb".

 and it seems that that's not far off:
 [root at xo-a7-2c-6e dev]# ls -l /var/log/messages; echo mem >
 /sys/power/state; ls -l /var/log/messages
 -rw------- 1 root root 70916 Mar 18 18:56 /var/log/messages
 +r-rw------- 1 root root 77107 Mar 18 18:57 /var/log/messages

 that's a growth of 6191 bytes.
