 i'm not sure what the point of recreating the ohm api is.  either we
 should code to a more generic (fedora?  gnome?) api, or we should code to
 a powerd api.

 if there's a "standard" api it would presumably work for the gnome
 desktop, or tinycore, or lxde, or whatever.

 (using dbus also has the advantage of doing an end-run around the root
 requirement for talking to powerd.  on the other hand, it will require
 another process.  i'd just as soon give user olpc
 write-access to the powerd command fifo, given the single-user nature of
 the machine.)
