Comment:

 I haven't been able to reproduce this precise symptom.  I've tried many
 times, including using a magnet waved slowly over the lid MR sensor area
 near the microphone.

 (With sufficiently small lid close times I'm able to get to a state where
 the laptop is suspended but the lid is open, but still the wireless does
 come back within a minute of another close and open cycle.)

 I'm able to reproduce the temporary disappearance of the device (ifconfig
 eth0, frame) and access point icons on the Neighbourhood View, but that
 isn't the symptom here.

 I'm happy to close this one until we get more evidence.
