 cjb -- sorry, i misunderstood comment #5 earlier -- powerd doesn't
 specifically inhibit suspend for audio.  we can detect that the device is
 open, but most apps open the device early, and never close it, whether
 it's in use or not.  since cpu activity while generating audio is enough
 to keep us awake, we rely on that instead, which lets us suspend when
 tamtam isn't playing sound.  so it's not surprising that this problem
 "still" exists.
