 An XO-1 regression from 8.2 is that previously, idling on the virtual
 terminal resulted in the screen being partially turned off (some
 proportion of characters mysteriously disappearing).

 On F11 it "works better" in that the GPU actually gets powered down in
 this state, but we're left with the DCON running, resulting in the scary
 DCON death pattern on the screen.
