Comment(by pgf):

 this could be fixed by having kbdshim inject a benign keystroke (e.g.,
 right-ctrl, which doesn't exist on the XO keyboard) when it's intercepting
 one of the "special" keys.  that would keep the kernel and X activity
 counters happy.  kbdshim should only do this if powerd's powerevents fifo,
 to which it would normally right activity indications, isn't present.

 (alternatively, we could switch from ohm to powerd.  this would require
 different work -- adapting sugar and/or activities for configuration and
 control of a non-ohm power manager.)
